People's Opinion  Forum Said Mr Pres' action will amount to the violation of the provision of the constitution if Mr. President  does not appoint a minister from each of the 36 states of the federation.

The Leader of the forum  who was commenting on speculations that the president was considering reducing the number of ministers to be appointed, said if he must reduce the number of ministers, it should not be less than 36. According to him, Section 147 of the 1999 Constitution "as amended" provides that a minister must be appointed from each of the 36 states of the federation.

He however,  said any attempt to violate the provision of the constitution would be challenged in court. I have heard speculations that the President wants to reduced the number of ministers to be appointed to save cost of governance. That is a very good steps and I commend him for that, but in taking such steps, he has to be conscious of the provisions of the constitution as well.
